I’ve lived in New York City for about two decades. Since I’ve traveled around the world, I’ve seen many amazing cities. NYC is one of the most unique cities I’ve ever seen. There are many things I love about the city. Below I’ve listed five of them:
1) The Metropolitan Museum of Art. As I mentioned in my previous post, I enjoy visiting the MET and have visited it a lot over the years. It’s a massive museum with a wide variety of exhibits. There’s always something new and exciting grabbing my attention. The art is literally from around the world, so it’s a great way to see the world without leaving the city. Additionally, uptown, you can find The Met Cloisters. It’s the only museum in America dedicated exclusively to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages. The nearby park has a beautiful view of the Hudson River and is a great place to have a picnic before or after your visit to the museum.
2) The Mermaid Parade (and Coney Island Amusement Park). The parade happens annually every third Saturday in June. It’s an NYC tradition that doesn’t require a costume, though it helps. You can choose to be in the parade or just watch from the sidewalk. It’s an excellent opportunity to spread your creative wings, dress-up, eat fried Oreos, take a ride on the famous Cyclone roller coaster, enjoy a day at the beach, and so much more.
3) Carmine’s Pizza. In my opinion, Chicago deep-dish pizza is the best pizza. This is as close to Chicago’s deep-dish pizza as New York City gets. Rich, flavorful, thick, delicious pizza. I love Carmine’s. The BBQ chicken slice is my favorite.
4) Bake & Things (and Flatbush and Church Avenues). Are you looking for a Caribbean food paradise outside of the Caribbean? Then get off at the Church Ave and the Flatbush Ave stops on the 2 and the 5 trains. There’s an abundance of Jamaican food, Trinidadian food, Guyanese food, Haitian food, and much much more. Of all the restaurants I frequent, Bake & Things is my favorite. Where many of the other restaurants run out of food and don’t put out more food in a timely manner, I can always find something I want to eat at Bake & Things. It’s good reliable food, and they take credit and debit cards (while many other restaurants don’t).
5) Prospect Park. There’s a lot to do in Prospect Park, and I find it’s more manageable than Central Park. In Prospect Park, there’s the LeFrak Center for ice and roller skating, pedal boats, and specialty bicycles. Every Sunday, from April to October, Smorgasburg offers a range of cuisines from 100+ local and regional food vendors. Festivals like Curlfest, are hosted in the park all throughout the summer. The options for things to do are (near) endless.

If you’ve lived in or been to NYC, let me know what you love in the comments. And if you’ve never been but plan on visiting, let me know what you’d love to visit when you get here.
